Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid
Start here. Thirteen episodes that set up the household: Kobayashi, the dragon maid Tohru, and Kanna.
Kobayashi, an overworked programmer, drunkenly invites a dragon to live with her and wakes up to find Tohru at her door in a maid outfit. More dragons from another world follow, among them the childlike Kanna, and her apartment turns into a household while the old conflicts of the dragon world keep reaching into everyday life.
Plus 5 optional extras.
3 titles · 25 episodes + 1 movie · ~12 hours
Watch the two TV seasons, then the film. Those 25 episodes and one 105-minute movie carry the whole story. The shorts and the two unaired episodes are side material and sit below the line.
Start here. Thirteen episodes that set up the household: Kobayashi, the dragon maid Tohru, and Kanna.
The second season, 12 episodes. It continues from the first season and introduces Ilulu.
A 105-minute film set after Dragon Maid S. Kanna's father, Kimun Kamui, arrives to take her back to the dragon world.
Seven shorts of about three minutes each, released between March and September 2017 alongside the first season. Nothing in them is needed for the main story.
Episode 14 of the first season: a Valentine's Day and hot spring episode.
⚠ Unaired episode, released on the seventh Blu-ray/DVD volume on September 20, 2017.
Shorts of about two minutes each, made to lead into Dragon Maid S: 13 weekly episodes from April to June 2021, then three specials during the season.
⚠ Streamed online from April 7, 2021, not broadcast on TV.
Five more Mini Dragon shorts, released between September 2021 and January 2022.
Episode 13 of Dragon Maid S, made for home video.
⚠ Unaired episode, released on the Volume S Blu-ray/DVD on January 19, 2022.
Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid runs in a straight line. The first season sets up the household: Kobayashi, Tohru and Kanna. Dragon Maid S continues from there and brings in Ilulu. The film is set after S and turns to Kanna and her father, so it only works once both seasons are behind you.
Everything else is optional. The first season came with seven three-minute shorts and an unaired fourteenth episode, and Dragon Maid S came with the Mini Dragon shorts and an unaired thirteenth episode. None of it is needed to follow the seasons or the film, which is why it sits under Optional Extras. Watch any of it after the season it belongs to, or leave it out.
Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid has 2 seasons and 1 film in the main run — 25 episodes altogether.

Only spin-offs that tie into the main story are listed here — anthologies, fan books and the like are left out.
The anime adapts manga chapters out of sequence and adds original scenes, including all of Episode 10 of the first season, so no single chapter marks where it stops. The manga is still running in Manga Action and is published in English by Seven Seas Entertainment.
Start with the first season, Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid (2017, 13 episodes). It is the beginning of the story and everything else assumes you have seen it.
Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid (13 episodes), then Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid S (12 episodes), then the film A Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved. The shorts and the two unaired episodes are optional and can be watched after the season they belong to.
Yes. Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid S is the second season. It aired from July 8 to September 23, 2021, runs 12 episodes, and continues directly from the first season.
After both TV seasons. A Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved is set after the events of Dragon Maid S and centers on Kanna and her father, Kimun Kamui. It opened in Japan on June 27, 2025, runs 105 minutes, and adapts material from the manga.
No. The two unaired episodes (Episode 14 of the first season and Episode 13 of Dragon Maid S), the seven Dragon Something shorts and the Mini Dragon shorts are all side material. The seasons and the film make sense without them.
About 12 hours for the main story: 25 episodes of roughly 24 minutes each plus the 105-minute film. The shorts and the two unaired episodes add about 2 more hours.
Yes. Both TV seasons were dubbed by Funimation with the same leads: Leah Clark as Kobayashi, Sarah Wiedenheft as Tohru and Jad Saxton as Kanna. The Dragon Maid S dub began on August 4, 2021 and added Kristi Rothrock as Ilulu. The film also has an English dub, with Leah Clark and Jad Saxton returning.
There is no filler arc. The anime rearranges chapters of the manga and adds original scenes, and Episode 10 of the first season, in which the cast put on a play, is anime-original.
Both TV seasons and the film are on Crunchyroll, which added the film in June 2026. Availability varies by region.
The anime has not been declared finished, and no third season has been announced as of October 2026. The most recent release is the 2025 film. The manga by Coolkyousinnjya is still running in Manga Action, with 20 volumes out in Japan as of September 2026.
There is no clean pick-up point. The anime adapts chapters out of sequence and adds scenes of its own, so the usual advice is to start from Volume 1. Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the manga in English.
