5 titles · 62 episodes · ~25 hours

Release order works: five main entries, 62 episodes, a little under 25 hours. Seasons 1 and 2 are each one season split into two parts released months apart, so the entry count looks larger than the story is. Season 3 is airing now. The bonus episode below the line is worth catching mid-way through Season 1.

1

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 1 Part 1

  • TV Series
  • 11 episodes
  • January 2021

Start here. Eleven episodes covering the protagonist's childhood: his family, his tutors, and the first hints that this world runs on rules he does not yet understand.

⚠ The protagonist's sexual behaviour is a recurring part of the series and is often played for comedy, including in scenes involving children. It starts in the first episode and does not go away. This is the single most common reason people drop the show, so it is worth knowing before you commit.

3

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Part 1

  • TV Series
  • 13 episodes
  • July 2023

Season 2 opens with an episode numbered 0, which fills in what happened to Sylphie during the disaster in the middle of Season 1 before the main story resumes. Thirteen episodes counting that one.

5

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 3

  • TV Series
  • 14 episodes
  • July 2026

Airing weekly since July 2026, opening on the Eris Training Arc rather than on Rudeus. Catch up on everything above first, then join the simulcast.

⚠ The 14 episodes listed here are the cour currently airing. Blu-ray listings indicate a second cour follows, but the full length of the season has not been announced.

Bonus Episode
6

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation – Eris the Goblin Slayer

  • Special
  • 1 episode
  • March 2022
  • ⏭ Skippable

A full 23-minute episode that never aired on television, included on the fourth Season 1 Blu-ray and later made available on streaming. It runs parallel to episode 16: while Rudeus is reuniting with his father, Eris goes goblin hunting on her own and meets a mage named Cliff. Watch it after episode 16 or 17. It is skippable, but it sets up why Cliff reacts to Rudeus the way he does in Season 2.

Why This Order

There is no puzzle to solve here. The story runs forward from the protagonist's birth without flashback arcs or timeline jumps, so release order and story order are the same thing. What confuses the entry count is that both finished seasons were split into two cours released several months apart: Season 1 ran 11 episodes in early 2021 and 12 more that autumn, and Season 2 ran 13 in 2023 and 12 in 2024. Treat each pair as one season watched in two sittings.

The one thing worth knowing is where the bonus episode goes. It is filed as a separate release and most guides drop it between the seasons, but it actually takes place during Season 1: it runs alongside episode 16, showing what Eris was doing on the day Rudeus met his father again. Watch it after episode 16 or 17 rather than saving it for later, and it also explains a detail that comes back in Season 2.

Season 3 began airing in July 2026 and is still running, so there is a large finished block to work through before you need to keep pace with the weekly schedule.

The source is a light novel by Rifujin na Magonote, published in English by Seven Seas under its Airship imprint. The main series finished in Japan in November 2022 at 26 volumes, so the whole story is written and waiting. Seasons 1 and 2 between them cover volumes 1 to 12, which means the anime has adapted a little under half of it. Season 3 started from volume 13 and is still running, so if you would rather not wait a season at a time, volume 13 is where to pick up. There is also a manga adaptation, but it runs behind the anime and is not a way to read ahead.

What to watch next

Three more series built on the same premise, each taking it somewhere different:

  • Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- The closest match in tone: another protagonist who is not a hero, carrying his old self into a new world and being made to live with it.
  • That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime The same reincarnation setup played warm rather than uncomfortable, with nation-building in place of personal reckoning.
  • Overlord For the other end of the scale, where the reincarnated protagonist stops asking whether he is still a good person.

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Watch Order FAQ

Where do I start with Mushoku Tensei?

Start with Season 1 Part 1 from January 2021 and watch in release order. Five main entries, 62 episodes, a little under 25 hours. There are no prequels or side series to worry about.

Why are there so many entries for two seasons?

Both finished seasons were split into two cours released months apart. Season 1 is 11 episodes plus 12, for 23 total. Season 2 is 13 plus 12, for 25, and the 13 includes an episode numbered 0. Each pair is one season, not two.

Where does the bonus episode go?

During Season 1, not between the seasons. Eris the Goblin Slayer runs parallel to episode 16, covering what Eris was doing while Rudeus reunited with his father. Watch it after episode 16 or 17. It is optional, but it introduces Cliff, who matters later in Season 2.

Is there an English dub?

Yes, for every season. Season 1 was released with both subtitles and an English dub, and the dub has continued since. The Season 3 dub began on Crunchyroll on 18 July 2026, two weeks behind the subtitled simulcast.

Where can I watch it?

Crunchyroll is the main platform and carries the whole run including the Season 3 simulcast, in both audio tracks. Depending on your region you may also find it on Netflix or a local licensee, so it is worth checking what is listed where you are.

Does Mushoku Tensei have filler?

No. Every season works steadily through the light novels in order, and even the bonus episode is adapted side story rather than padding. Nothing in the run can be skipped for being filler.

How long is Season 3 and is it finished?

It is still airing. It premiered on 5 July 2026 after a double-length preview the day before, and the cour currently running is 14 episodes. Blu-ray listings point to a second cour following, but the total length of the season has not been announced.

Is the story over, or is more coming?

The light novels finished in November 2022 at 26 volumes, so the ending exists. The anime is nowhere near it: Seasons 1 and 2 covered the first twelve volumes and Season 3 started from volume 13, which leaves well over half the story unadapted.

Is the show as uncomfortable as people say?

That depends on what you can sit with. The protagonist keeps the mind and the habits of the man he used to be, and his sexual behaviour is written into the series as an ongoing character trait rather than an early phase he grows out of. Some of it involves children. The story does treat it as a flaw he works against over time, but it is present throughout and is the usual reason people stop watching.
