The 2008 season adapted the first two novels and the 2009 season adapted the third and the fifth, skipping the fourth entirely. Isuna Hasekura's light novels are the source for both adaptations, and the reading order depends on which version you watched. After the 2024 remake, the next unread book is the fifth. After the 2009 season, the gap is the fourth novel, which that adaptation skipped, and the story then continues from the sixth. Either way there is a great deal left: the main story runs to seventeen volumes and reaches a definitive ending, and a later run called Spring Log continues the numbering from eighteen to twenty-four, set more than a decade after the journey ends. A separate spin-off series, Wolf and Parchment, follows the next generation across thirteen volumes. Yen Press publishes the novels, the manga adaptation and the spin-off in English.
