Sailor Moon
Start here. 46 episodes (1992 to 1993) adapting the Dark Kingdom arc: Usagi Tsukino becomes Sailor Moon and gathers the other Sailor Guardians.
Usagi Tsukino is a clumsy, easily distracted middle school student until a talking cat named Luna tells her she is Sailor Moon, a guardian of love and justice. Joined by the other Sailor Guardians, she fights the Dark Kingdom while searching for the lost Moon Princess, and the story grows into a saga about her past life and the future she is fighting for.
Plus 5 optional extras and 6 more titles.

Watch the five seasons of the 1992 series in order, with the three movies and the SuperS shorts as optional extras. Sailor Moon Crystal, Eternal and Cosmos are a separate retelling of the manga, listed under their own divider.
Start here. 46 episodes (1992 to 1993) adapting the Dark Kingdom arc: Usagi Tsukino becomes Sailor Moon and gathers the other Sailor Guardians.
43 episodes (1993 to 1994). Episodes 1 to 13 are an anime-original arc; the rest adapts the Black Moon arc.
38 episodes (1994 to 1995) adapting the Infinity arc.
39 episodes (1995 to 1996) adapting the Dream arc.
34 episodes (1996 to 1997), the final season of the 1992 series, adapting the Stars arc. It was never part of the original edited English dub.
A 1993 film and a side story that does not follow the TV timeline exactly. Watch it after Sailor Moon R.
A 1994 film based on Naoko Takeuchi's side story The Lover of Princess Kaguya. Watch it after Sailor Moon S.
Three shorts first aired in April 1995 in place of a regular SuperS episode: a recap centered on Usagi, a Haruka and Michiru story, and a Chibiusa story. Watch it with Sailor Moon SuperS.
A 15-minute short about Ami, screened in 1995 with the SuperS film. Watch it together with Sailor Moon SuperS: The Movie.
A 1995 film, another side story outside the TV timeline. Watch it after Sailor Moon SuperS.
Crystal (2014 to 2015, 26 episodes) is a separate retelling that adapts Naoko Takeuchi's manga from the start, covering the Dark Kingdom and Black Moon arcs. It does not continue the 1992 series.
13 episodes (2016) adapting the Infinity arc, also called the Death Busters arc.
The first of two films (January 2021) adapting the Dream arc, continuing from Crystal Season 3.
The second Eternal film (February 2021), completing the Dream arc.
The first of two films (June 2023) adapting the Stars arc, the final arc of the manga.
The second Cosmos film (June 2023), which ends the manga adaptation.
There are two complete versions of Sailor Moon. The 1992 series runs five seasons and 200 episodes and covers all five arcs of Naoko Takeuchi's manga, with some anime-original material along the way. Sailor Moon Crystal, followed by the Eternal and Cosmos films, starts again from the beginning and follows the manga closely.
This order puts the 1992 series first because it is the longer, original adaptation that most viewers mean by Sailor Moon. Its three movies are side stories that do not follow the TV timeline, so they sit under Optional Extras with a note on which season to finish first. The SuperS Special and Ami's First Love are short extras from the SuperS era.
Crystal does not continue the 1992 series. You can watch it on its own, before or after the original. The 15-minute recap shown before the R movie is not listed.
Sailor Moon has 5 seasons in the main run — 200 episodes altogether.

Where each part of the anime lines up with the source, so you know where to pick up reading.
Naoko Takeuchi's manga has five arcs, and both anime versions cover all of them, so there is no point to pick up reading after the anime. Volume numbers differ by edition (18 volumes originally, 12 in the 2003 reissue, 10 in the Eternal Edition), so this page lists arcs instead. In the 1992 series, episodes 1 to 13 of Sailor Moon R are anime-original.
Start with episode 1 of the 1992 series, Sailor Moon. If you want a shorter version that follows the manga closely, start with Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal instead; it retells the story from the beginning.
For the 1992 series: Sailor Moon, Sailor Moon R, Sailor Moon S, Sailor Moon SuperS, then Sailor Moon Sailor Stars, with the R, S and SuperS movies after their seasons. For the reboot: Sailor Moon Crystal Seasons 1-2, Crystal Season 3, Eternal The Movie Part 1 and Part 2, then Cosmos The Movie Part 1 and Part 2.
Both cover all five arcs of the manga. The 1992 series is 200 episodes and adds anime-original material, such as the first arc of Sailor Moon R. Crystal is 39 episodes plus four films and follows the manga closely. They are separate versions, so you can watch either one, or both.
No. Crystal is a reboot that starts the story again from the manga's first arc. The Eternal and Cosmos films continue Crystal, not the 1992 series.
The three 1990s movies (R, S and SuperS) are side stories that do not follow the TV timeline exactly. Watch each one after its season: Sailor Moon R: The Movie after R, Sailor Moon S: The Movie after S, and Sailor Moon SuperS: The Movie after SuperS. The Eternal and Cosmos films are different: they are part of the main Crystal story.
The SuperS Special is three shorts that aired in April 1995 in place of a regular episode: an Usagi recap, a Haruka and Michiru story and a Chibiusa story. Ami's First Love is a 15-minute short shown with the SuperS movie. Make Up! Sailor Guardians, a 15-minute recap shown before the R movie, is not in the watch order; Viz included it on the R movie Blu-ray.
Yes. Viz Media produced an uncut English dub of all 200 episodes, the movies and the specials, finishing in November 2019, when the Sailor Stars season was released in English for the first time. The older DiC and Cloverway dub was edited, cut several episodes and never covered Sailor Stars. Crystal has a Viz dub, and Eternal and Cosmos have Netflix dubs. Stephanie Sheh voices Usagi in all of these newer dubs.
Yes, in the 1992 series. Episodes 1 to 13 of Sailor Moon R (episodes 47 to 59 overall) are an anime-original arc that is not in the manga. The first season also goes beyond the manga in places, but there is no reliable episode-by-episode list. Crystal follows the manga and has no filler.
In the US, the 1992 series is on Hulu and free with ads on Tubi; it is not on Crunchyroll. Sailor Moon Crystal is on Netflix and Hulu, and the Eternal and Cosmos films are on Netflix. Availability differs by region.
Yes, both versions are complete. The 1992 series ended on February 8, 1997, and the Cosmos films (June 2023) finished the manga adaptation that began with Crystal. As of October 2026, no new Sailor Moon anime has been announced.
Yes. Naoko Takeuchi's manga ran in Nakayoshi from 1991 to 1997, and Kodansha USA publishes it in English, most recently as the 10-volume Eternal Edition (2018 to 2020).
The 1992 series is 200 episodes of about 24 minutes each, roughly 80 hours, plus about 3 hours of movies. Crystal, Eternal and Cosmos together take about 21 hours.
