Kakegurui Watch Order (2026 Guide)

At Hyakkaou Private Academy, the children of the rich and powerful are ranked by how well they gamble, and those who fall into debt become house pets to the rest. Then transfer student Yumeko Jabami arrives: polite, cheerful, and addicted to risk for its own sake. She does not want to win the school's game so much as break it open.

  2. Kakegurui xx

Plus 1 more title.

2 titles · 24 episodes · ~10 hours

Start with Kakegurui, go straight into Kakegurui xx, and treat Kakegurui Twin as an optional extra afterwards. The two TV seasons are the main story; Twin is a six-episode prequel about Mary Saotome that is set a year earlier but is easier to enjoy once you know the school.

1

Kakegurui

  • TV Series
  • 12 episodes
  • July 2017

Start here. Twelve episodes covering Yumeko's transfer to Hyakkaou Private Academy and her gambles against the student council, adapted from manga chapters 1 to 27.

⚠ The final episode is an anime-original ending and does not appear in the manga.

2

Kakegurui xx

  • TV Series
  • 12 episodes
  • January 2019

The second season, not a spin-off: the xx is just part of its title. Twelve episodes that continue directly from the first season with the student council election.

Kakegurui Twin

  • ONA
  • 6 episodes
  • August 2022

A six-episode prequel about Mary Saotome's arrival at the academy. It tells its own story and can be left out without losing anything from the main plot.

⚠ Set one year before the first season, with Mary Saotome as the lead instead of Yumeko.

Why This Order

The main story is two 12-episode TV seasons. Kakegurui (2017) follows Yumeko Jabami's arrival at Hyakkaou Private Academy and her collision with the student council, and Kakegurui xx (2019) picks up with the election that drags the rest of the Momobami clan into the school. Together they run 24 episodes, about 10 hours. Neither season finishes the story: the manga is still running, and each season closes on an ending written for the anime.

Kakegurui Twin (2022) is a separate six-episode series about Mary Saotome's arrival at the academy, a year before Yumeko transfers in. It needs nothing from the main series to make sense, but it was made for viewers who already know who Mary becomes, so it plays better as a follow-up than as an introduction. It sits below the line because the main story does not depend on it.

Kakegurui Midari Spin-off Manga

The anime adapts the manga written by Homura Kawamoto and drawn by Toru Naomura, serialised in Square Enix's Gangan Joker since March 2014 and still running. Yen Press publishes the English edition. The first season covers chapters 1 to 27 and Kakegurui xx covers chapters 28 to 55, so the manga continues from chapter 55 in volume 10. Sources disagree on one point: one guide says chapters 28 to 33 (volume 6) were left out of the anime, so read from volume 6 if you want to be sure of missing nothing. Anime-original material: episode 12 of the first season and episodes 11 and 12 of Kakegurui xx. Kakegurui Twin adapts the early chapters of the spin-off manga drawn by Kei Saiki, which ended in May 2023.

What to watch next

Three more series on the site where the fight is a game and the stakes are the players themselves.

  • No Game, No Life Every dispute in its world is settled by a game, and the leads win by reading the rules harder than anyone else.
  • Classroom of the Elite Another elite school that ranks its students ruthlessly, with scheming in place of card tables.
  • Death Parade The dead play bar games to decide where their souls go, and what the games expose matters more than who wins.

Kakegurui Watch Order FAQ

What is the correct order to watch Kakegurui?

Kakegurui (2017), then Kakegurui xx (2019). Those two seasons are the main story: 24 episodes, about 10 hours. Kakegurui Twin (2022) is an optional six-episode prequel that works best afterwards.

Where should I start with Kakegurui?

With the first season, simply titled Kakegurui. It introduces Yumeko Jabami, the academy and its gambling hierarchy. Kakegurui Twin is set earlier, but it is a spin-off and not the starting point.

Is Kakegurui xx Season 2?

Yes. Kakegurui xx is the second season of the TV anime, 12 episodes that aired from January 8 to March 26, 2019. Netflix lists it as Season 2 of Kakegurui and not as a separate title.

Do I need to watch Kakegurui Twin?

No. Twin is a self-contained prequel about Mary Saotome, set a year before the main series, and the main story never depends on it. It is six episodes, under three hours, and worth watching if you want more of the academy after the two seasons.

Should I watch Kakegurui Twin before or after the main series?

After, for a first viewing. It is set earlier, but it was released in 2022 for viewers who already knew Mary from the main series. If you prefer strict story order, the chronological tab puts it first.

How many episodes does Kakegurui have?

30 in total: 12 in Kakegurui, 12 in Kakegurui xx and 6 in Kakegurui Twin. The two main seasons take about 10 hours, and Twin adds a little under 3.

Is Kakegurui finished, and will there be a Season 3?

The anime stopped after Kakegurui xx in March 2019, and no third season has been announced. The story itself is not finished: the manga by Homura Kawamoto and Toru Naomura has been running in Gangan Joker since 2014 and is still ongoing. Both TV seasons end on anime-original finales, not on a conclusion from the manga.

Are there any filler episodes?

Three episodes are anime-original: the final episode of the first season and the last two episodes of Kakegurui xx, which centre on Rei Batsubami, a character created for the anime. Everything else adapts the manga.

Is there an English dub?

Yes, and there are two. The dub on Netflix was produced by Bang Zoom! Entertainment with Erika Harlacher as Yumeko and covers both seasons. Sentai Filmworks recorded a separate dub with a different cast, led by Estelle Link as Yumeko, for its 2021 home video release. Kakegurui Twin is also dubbed on Netflix, with Kira Buckland as Mary.

Where can I watch Kakegurui?

Both TV seasons and Kakegurui Twin are on Netflix, which holds the streaming rights outside Japan. In the United States it is the only subscription service carrying them.

Where do I start the manga after the anime?

At chapter 55, in volume 10. Kakegurui xx follows the manga up to that point before switching to its own ending. One guide reports that the anime skipped chapters 28 to 33 (volume 6), so starting from volume 6 is the safer choice if you want everything. Yen Press publishes the English edition.

Is Bet the same as Kakegurui?

Bet is Netflix's English-language live-action adaptation of the Kakegurui manga, released on May 15, 2025 and renewed for a second season. It is a separate retelling and is not part of the anime's watch order. The same goes for the Japanese live-action drama and films.

What is the Kakegurui Picture Drama?

A set of three short picture dramas included as video extras on the Japanese Blu-ray and DVD volumes of the first season. They are stills with voice acting instead of animation, so they are left out of the watch order.
